Graffiti Terminology:
- bomb
- To bomb or hit is to paint many surfaces in an area. Bombers often choose throw-ups or tags over complex pieces, as they can be executed more quickly.
So I usually don’t really stress locations too much with my clients, when I’m asked about good locations I pretty much recommend the first hill in the area that’s closets to an urban sector and figure that we’ll exploit the diversity of it. One thing I almost always avoid is something that as a backdrop is almost always overused, until this last shoot. We went to forest park, one of the most photographed places is Springfield MA. Intentionally.
Recently I heard a photographer speaking at an event and stated that sometimes we just have to shoot boring locations or our clients ideas as quickly as possible so we can get back to our ideas. I disagree with this mentality vehemently, when I have clients who give me their ideas, or I’m shooting at a location that is overused, I almost always try to use it as a catalyst for my imagination to take over, this is when the Photographic “Bombing” occurs. How many looks can I get here? Am I experimenting with light and composition enough? Will I leave my stamp on this location or idea?
You see, I believe as an artist, that everything creative works as a complement to each other, having the technical and creative ability to execute someone’s ideas just seems to be a good challenging exercise. Being able to shoot a familiar location to most people while giving people my perception of it, is my job as a photographer. So I tried to do this with Kyle and Sarah’s Engagement Session.
Kyle and Sarah are great to shoot. I can’t wait to shoot their wedding this September. They’re very comfortable in front of the camera, and that is very appreciated as a shooter, because it shows strong trust.
Anyway, a few from my E-shoot with Kyle and Sarah at Forest Park:

These shots communicate more than your artistry. Evokes real emotion. I feel like I can feel what they’re feeling. Nice.
