Film.
It’s funny, digital photography is amazing. I love it, and would probably have never thought to be a professional photographer without the advent of it. However a few weeks ago I was discussing a senior photo session with some other photographers and one asked “Why not shoot film if you’re going to process your digital photos to look like film anyway?”. I thought about it also. Couple days later, my dad shows up at my house with a Pentax k1000, I have a senior portrait shoot the next day, and bring the camera. It was AWESOME. You might have seen the Manchester CT Portraits earlier. I shot about 30% of it film and can’t wait to continue into this new world.

I had a K1000. It was my first SLR. Great camera for what it was. I took it across the Mediterranean. Manual focusing with the old lenses and that big focus screen was so much easier than with DSLRs. What is your film of choice? I liked Kodak Portra VC for print and Velvia for slides.
I’m using portra nc and fuji 160s.
I’m still using the K1000 that I got as a gift over 20 years ago. The only drawback is waiting for the film to develop to see how great each shot was. Even 20″ by 30″ poster size prints look great.
I remember film. I had a darkroom in my walk in closet. Now I have the “darkroom” on my desk.
totally agree that if you’re going for a film look, just start with film, it’ll come out looking like film. glad you had fun playing with the film camera. I tried doing my wedding photography last year with some “hybrid” work… both film and digital, but in the end, my look isn’t a film look, so it didn’t work for me.
